In addition, it was announced that the highly anticipated series will premiere on Friday, January 24, 2020, on Amazon Prime Video. Prime Video holds the rights worldwide exclusively outside the US and Canada. After the premiere, the new episodes of the first season of STAR TREK: PICARD will be released weekly on Friday just after US broadcast. Overall, the first season includes 10 episodes.
In the new Star Trek series, Sir Patrick Stewart returns in his role as the venerable commander Jean-Luc Picard, whom he embodied in Starship Enterprise – The Next Century in seven seasons. The series follows the iconic character in the next chapter of his life. In addition to Stewart, stars such as Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful), Isa Briones (American Crime Story: Versace), Santiago Cabrera (Salvation), Evan Evagora and Michelle Hurd (Blindspot) complete the top-class cast. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in collaboration with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Executive Producers include Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Sir Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers of Secret Hideout is the co-executive producer and Kirsten Beyer is the supervising producer. Hanelle Culpepper staged the first two episodes of the series.
